No one could have predicted that we would be facing a worldwide pandemic this year. We as a firm have reacted the best we can to the ever changing situation and are pleased to share one of the positive stories from the last few months.
Since the Coronavirus pandemic began and lockdown was enforced in the UK we have all had to make adjustments to our daily lives. As a firm we wanted to make sure we could help charities in any way we could throughout this crisis. After some research we found that in the early stages of lockdown the best way we could help was to provide PPE to a charity in need.
Age UK, Lancashire is a county-wide charity working with and for older people. They believe that later life should be valued and fulfilling. Through the services and support they provide, they aim to promote independence, enhance health and well-being and enable older people to access the information they need to make informed decisions about their lives.
We were very proud to be able to have donated 10,000 masks to Age UK, Lancashire. We were informed by the Care Provider Alliance that because of extreme shortage of masks they were unable to carry out their outreach work in the community.
These facemasks will enable community support workers and volunteers to enter into their homes so these people get face to face interaction and the vital support they need. In doing so, it will keep them safe in their own homes, and will potentially avoid them having to go into a care home, where, as we know from the news reports, there is a potential increased risk of infection.
The donation of these masks is really important as they look for other ways to restore services no longer able to run due to lockdown to some of the most vulnerable and frail people. Many have early stage dementia, mobility issues, depression due to isolation, and have deteriorated rapidly as a result of not receiving services and the physical & mental stimulation that they so desperately need.
"As a charity they saw a huge increase in costs as most of the PPE was requisitioned to the NHS in February and was hard to get hold of, and when they could, it was at hugely inflated prices which they couldn’t afford".
The Support at Home team have been working on the front line helping vulnerable older people with their shopping, essential cleaning and prescription delivery.
Many of the people accessing this service are completely cut off from their normal way of life due to lockdown restrictions and being in the high risk category for COVID19. Without their support they would struggle with day to day life and have very few alternative options.
