What's on the INN agenda for 2023 with Robyn Hawkins
The Inclusive Numis Network (INN) is an employee-led group that promotes an inclusive, diverse and collaborative workplace. It seeks to empower all colleagues at Numis to help build an increasingly inclusive culture. Robyn Hawkins, Director in the Debt Advisory team at Numis and Chair of INN, discusses what‘s new for 2023 and how you can get involved.
2023 will be INN’s second year of operation. What were some of the achievements last year?
We saw a lot of enthusiasm across the business for INN in its first year, with many more colleagues joining the network and volunteering to lead events.
We held a number of initiatives in 2022: some focused on raising awareness or education around particular subjects, while others centred on celebrating the diversity in our teams in a fun and engaging way. We also gave back to our community with various fundraising events.
Our initiatives included:
- Women in the Workplace panel event on International Women’s Day, featuring Dame Helena Morrisey alongside four other impressive female speakers including Catherine James (Independent NED at Numis), joined by our own Co-CEO Ross Mitchinson
- Clothes collection for charities Dress for Success and Suited & Booted
- Comedy Night with Joe Wells, a neurodiverse comedian
- Pride BBQ hosted on our balcony raising money for the Kaleidoscope Trust
- An evening with David Olusoga, the British historian, to learn about the roots of structural racism followed by Show Racism the Red Card Day raising funds for the anti-racism charity
- CEO roundtable events on race and ethnicity in the workplace
- Based on employee feedback, training sessions on ’Communication with Empathy’ led by external trainer Lauren Patton
- Additionally, we ran a ’lunch and learn’ on maternity and shared parental leave as well as kicking off the ’INN Conversation’ interview series to get to know our colleagues a little better.
What’s already planned?
Our focus areas for 2023 are similar to 2022 but remain targeted on key topics from neurodiversity through to socioeconomic diversity.
We have already planned a number of initiatives to support these focuses – here are just some we have already confirmed:
- A talk with adventurer and businesswoman Debra Searle for International Women’s Day
- A puppy therapy session with Paws in Work, to promote wellbeing and de-stressing
- Celebrate Pride month, a celebration sports day to be held in London for all employees
- INNclusive Celebration Week celebrating the diversity within our workforce, with a focus on different cultures and nationalities.
Many more initiatives are in the pipeline – including skills training with children from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds – and we will bring you further details in due course.
